The attributes compared

• Class. Mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, arthropod or mollusc. The attribute that narrows the pool fastest.
• Diet. Carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. A clean three-way split.
• Habitat. The animal's iconic home: forest, savanna, desert, mountain, polar, ocean, freshwater or farm.
• Continents. The natural range. One shared continent turns the cell yellow; the exact same list turns it green.
• Legs. 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. Separates snakes from fish and insects from spiders.
• Weight. Adult average, with arrows telling you whether the target is heavier or lighter.

Tips

• Open with a medium-sized mammal. Half the pool is mammals, so the class column pays off immediately.
• Do not waste a yellow continents cell. Try species that share that continent but spread into others, and the list shrinks fast.
• Legs is quiet but powerful. Six legs locks you into insects; zero legs leaves fish, snakes and marine mammals.
• Treat the weight arrow as a binary search. The range spans nine orders of magnitude, so every guess cuts hard.
