Stopwatchdle measures your internal clock. You are given a target between 4 and 8 seconds, you start the timer, and you try to stop it on target without seeing the digits. There is no countdown on screen, only your own rhythm.
How it works
The target appears at the start of the round, say 5.7 seconds. The stopwatch runs from the moment you press start, but it stays hidden. When you press stop, your error opens up: how many seconds early or late you finished.
The target is redrawn every round, so you cannot calibrate once and repeat the same move. The difference between 4.2 and 7.8 seconds forces you to actually retune the count.
No clock watching
Checking your phone, a wall clock or another timer ends the game. What we are measuring is exactly how well you count without that help. Nobody can police it, but there is not much point cheating in a game you play with friends.
Scoring
The error is absolute; stopping early or late makes no difference. Once everyone has finished, players are ranked closest to furthest from the target: first +3, second +2, third +1.
Why it is hard
The brain has no single organ that counts seconds; time perception drifts with attention, excitement and whatever else you are doing. The moment you focus on winning the round, time feels faster and you stop early. Hitting the same target twice is hard on its own, because by the second round you are anticipating it. That is what the game really measures: how well you hold your own rhythm under pressure.
Tips
Calibrate your rhythm once. The "one thousand one, one thousand two" count runs fast for most people; note how far off you were on the first round.
Use a song tempo. At 120 BPM a beat is exactly half a second, and playing a familiar intro in your head is steadier than counting.
Tap your foot or rock slightly. People who count with their body are more consistent than people who count in their head.
Do not hesitate at the end. Hesitation always makes you late, never early.
Mind the decimal. If the target is 6.3 you are aiming a little past 6 seconds, not at 6.
